Update, Jan. 24: Best Buy has reduced all models of iPad Air by $50 on Jan. 24 and 25. See this article. Best Buy to reduce iPad Air price by $50 on Jan. 24 and 25. The iPhone 5s is also $50 lower at Best Buy: iPhone 5s is $150 at Best Buy in two-day sale.

Update, Jan. 6: the iPad Air price is $499 now at BestBuy.com. This is the same price as the Apple store, Target and Walmart. It's clear the $419 price we reported was an error which we regret.

Walmart.com sold out of the 32 GB iPad Air for online orders today on Jan. 2, an indication that demand is high for this configuration. The prices quoted above are for the standard 16 GB configuration iPad Air with wifi-only telecommunications capability.

The iPad naming is a little confusing now and here are two hints for shoppers. For the bigger model, 9.7 inch screen, remember that "iPad with Retina display" is last year's model and iPad 2 is the model from two years ago.

Second, if you're interested in the smaller iPad Mini, remember that "iPad Mini with Retina Display" is this year's new model and "iPad Mini" is last year's model. Last year's model looks similar to the latest model but has less pixels in its screen.

If you're looking for less expensive tablets, consider the smaller Androids: H.H.Gregg and other stores are offering very low-priced, low-capacity Android tablets including a Lenovo product at $99.99 and a low-capacity unnamed Android tablet at $49.99. Amazon Kindle and Barnes and Noble's Nook are also far less expensive than iPad and provide tablet capability in addition to easy, portable ability to buy and read books.

These iPad prices can be found on Bestbuy.com, Target.com, Walmart.com and Apple.com. These prices cover 16 gigabyte, wifi-only models.

Best Buy, iPad Air: $499.
