How many times have you found yourself lying on the couch at home watching Dick Clark drop the ball? Or better yet, plans were made, outfits were bought and the entire thing came crashing down – a total disaster. No one wants either of these scenarios to find their way into reality, so here’s a guide to some of Detroit’s best parties to ring in the New Year, in style and on time – just leave the drama queens at home.
NYE Resolution Ball • The Fillmore • 8pm-4am • tickets $30, $50, $100
Last year, the Social Connection hosted an amazing celebration at Detroit’s historic Fillmore (formerly the State Theatre) complete with roaming illusionists, plentiful DJ’s and flowing drinks. This year will offer a slightly different experience, as aerial acrobats have been added to the madness. DJ’s Tommy Holiday and Mike Anthony are the spin-masters of the evening and attendees can witness the ball drop live on six giant screens. VIP’s will get the special treatment with delicious hors d’oeuvres and exclusive mezzanine access. A post-2009 food buffet of Coneys, pizzas and sliders will be had as well as a coffee service and chocolate buffet. If a sexy, stylish party is what you’re looking for, your search has stopped here.
Twenty Ten • Cloud 9 • 8pm-4am • tickets $30, VIP $50
Cloud 9 is one of Detroit’s newest ultra lounges. Replacing South Beach Ultra Lounge this past September, Cloud 9 will play host to one of the most premier New Years Eve experiences in the city this side of 2010. Party goers will have three different experiences as they can either chill in the VIP area inside Cloud 9, peruse the Rose Rooms lavish red interior or hang in Detroit’s first simulation style club, Pearl, featuring a “light show style ambiance.” This sexy gala is presented by 98WJLB, District 81 clothing and Royal Family Entertainment and is sure to provide the perfect mixture of eloquence and sensuality for anyone wanting to celebrate the New Year.
New Years Eve 2010-Resolutions • Northern Lights Lounge • 8pm-4am • tickets $10 before 11, $15 after
If you’re looking for a slightly more intimate, relaxed experience, look no further than Northern Lights Lounge. Whether you come as you are or dress to the nines, Northern Lights patrons will welcome you with open arms and a guaranteed good time. Twelve DJ’s will be spinning for your listening pleasure, including the petite electronic artist Punisher and Big Joe Hix. Hors d’oeuvres will be served between eight and ten with tunes playing the whole night through. So come on down to Northern Lights Lounge, slide into an oversized corner booth and enjoy a pint or six because 2010 will need some new memories to start off right.
