Best In Beauty 2013

Beauty in Beauty 2013It’s been a great year in the beauty world and I’ve tried some amazing new products and have become must-have items. Keep in mind these are my opinions based on products that I’ve tried and purchased in 2013. Some of are new and others are returning favorites. I’ve tested out a lot of products and brands, but I haven’t tried them all.

Best Face Products of 2013

The best primer I’ve used in 2013 was definitely the Youngblood Mineral Primer. It’s on the pricey side, but it’s amazing. The best I’ve used. In the foundation category, Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation was the best for me. I purchased it at IMATS last January and I’m so glad I made the splurge. My skin has never looked that good. For loose foundation nothing can compete against bareMinerals. It’s been my go-to foundation for years now. MAC wins in the powder category with their Studio Fix Pressed foundation.

For setting powder my go-to has always been the Laura Mercier translucent powder. But for pressed, I really love the newish NARS Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder.

Best Cheek Products of 2013

For cheeks it’s simple: The best bronzer for me for 2013 was the NARS Laguna Bronzer. I don’t wear cream blush since I have oil skin, but for pressed, I’m in love with the Tarte Amazonian Clay blush in Exposed. I didn’t wear much highlighter in 2013 so I don’t really have a favorite… maybe next year. The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette hands down was the best palette of the year.

Best Eye Products of 2013

The main eye primer I used this year was the NARS Smudge Proof Eye Shadow Base. It’s the only primer that actually works for my oily eye lids. I haven’t done much with eye products this year. I’ve never been the biggest fan of eye shadows in general. For cream products, I love my MAC paint pots and Make Up For Ever Aqua Creams. My current single favorite eye shadow is a new one from NARS called Mississippi Mermaid and of course Satin Taupe from MAC. It’s a gorgeous shadow and NARS is one of my favorite brands for single shadows. Make Up For Ever and NYX carry my favorite jumbo eye shadow pencils. I didn’t wear loose shadows this year, but I used to be obsessed with the shadows from bareMinerals. Laura Mercier’s Artist Palette 2 was by far the best palette for me.

For eye liners my MAC Eye Kohl Pencil in Teddy. I have super sensitive eyes and this is the best for me since it goes on so smoothly without having to tug or pull on my eyes. For gel liner, I’m in love with my Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel liner. This is the first year I’ve worn gel liner and I originally wanted to start out with something cheaper like Maybelline or Inglot. When I asked around everyone told me to get Bobbi Brown. It is pricier, but I absolutely love it.

I’ll admit; I’m a bit of a mascara hoarder. I have enough mascara to last me a couple of years. I’ve tried so many that it’s hard to keep track. But I have to say, the best mascara of 2013 is from a local company called Camp Cosmetics. I have the mascara in Mirage, a gorgeous blue, and I’m in love. My lashes look stunning and natural and I love what the hint of blue does to my eyes.

Best Lip Products of 2013

I’m the most stubborn when it comes to lip products. I like my favorites and I always have a hard time going out and trying something new. I did it a little this year and it’s my goal for 2014 to expand and try new lip products.

The best liner I’ve used this year was the Urban Decay Naked liner. I’ve been wearing it a lot under lip gloss. My favorite gloss is hands down the MAC Looks Like Sin Cremesheen. Unfortunately it’s limited-edition and I got the last two from the CCO. I’ll be a sad Panda once those two are gone. For lipstick the best of the year for me is my Tom Ford lipstick in Indian Rose. I almost didn’t get it because of the price, but it’s by far the best lipstick I’ve ever owned. I have to give a mention to Cosmo lipstick from Finding Ferdinand that I got to create last month. The lipstick texture is amazing and I absolutely love the color.

MAC lip conditioners wins in that category and the Fresh Sugar lip balm wins in that one. But Revlon Lip Butter comes in a very close second. They’re amazing.

Best Beauty Tools of 2013

I’m not going to list every time of brush since I don’t use that many, but I will say the best brushes of 2013 are: MAC 239, MAC 217 for my eyes. The Royal & Langnickel GL-2 for blush and Real Techniques Blush brush for bronzer. For foundation it’s definitely the Real Techniques Expert Face brush. I have no idea how I’ve gone this long without that brush.

Best of 2013: MISC

This is the miscellaneous section since it’s not makeup related. For dry shampoo my favorite is Batiste, which I just discovered recently. I don’t know how I could have gone this long without using dry shampoo. Speaking of hair care, getting a blow dry is my new favorite thing to do this year. My favorite place is definitely the Drybar!

This should not be a surprise, but the best beauty subscription service of 2013 is Glossybox. I’ve been with them since they first launched in the US and I’ve never been disappointed. I can’t wait to see what they have in store for 2014.

Z-Palette takes the cake for best empty palette and butterLONDON is the all around best of 2013 for base and top coat, and nail polish. My favorite nail polish shade of 2013 is OPI’s Lincoln Park After Dark.

What are some of your favorite products of 2013?
