Plage de Paloma (or Paloma Beach) sports spectacular views looking down the coast toward Italy. The mountains tumble into the sea. You can pick out the tiny medieval town of Eze perched high on its cliff. And the warm water surprises and delights with its beautiful clarity. You barely need tread water at all to dangle and relax suspended vertically. The high saline content keeps you afloat!
The Riviera Scene
This hidden gem of a beach lies on a peninsula just east of Nice called St. Jean-Cap-Ferrat. The area teems with posh villas, yet the beach is open to all. But get there when they open to secure a front-row rental of your cushy lounge chair on the pebbly beach. Then watch the scene unfold. You may have a family with young children on your right and a honeymooning couple – both topless – on your left. You might even spot a celebrity or two. (Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were seen here.)
When lunch-time rolls around, there’s no need to move from the beach. Order right there at the restaurant. Try the salade nicoise paired with a Provencal rose’ – renown for its refreshing fruity-yet-dry character.
Afterwards have a sunset dinner at one of the many seaside restaurants in Villefranche-sur-Mer – only a 10-minute drive back toward Nice and very romantic!
