Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor's Hindi movie "Besharam" was released in India, U.S. and across the world on October 2, 2013. The movie is expected to open well considering the hype.
Infact Ranbir Kapoor is the single most driving factor for the film since the lead actress Pallavi Sharda, is a debutante. The release day being a National holiday in India is expected to further boost to its box-office collections.
"Besharam" was released in 3600 screens in India and 700 screens overseas. The movie was released on more screens than "Chennai Express" (3500 screens), the biggest hit of 2013. This means there is a huge market for the movie to tap. On the other side, comparisons are bound to happen instantly.
Shah Rukh Khan's movie "Chennai Express", had netted over Rs 33 crores at the box office on its release day. "Besharam" was expected to cross at least Rs 22 crores at the box office which would eclipse Ranbir’s last movie "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" record.
But the movie earned Rs 20.50 crores on the 1st day at the box-office.
Since it is a long holiday weekend, "Besharam" is expected to collect Rs 100 crores in its 1st weekend itself.
The responses to the songs and the promos have been average so far. A section of the audience felt the promos as insulting for Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan.
But given the title and genre of the movie, such a response has been expected. The movie is a testimony of stardom of Ranbir Kapoor.
Early trends suggested that "Besharam" is having an excellent start with 90-95% occupancy in single screens and multiplexes during morning shows. It is doing extraordinarily good in Mumbai and Delhi with almost all shows housefull.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh gave a rating of 2.5 out of 5 stars and tweeted, "#Besharam review: Proves the adage 'All that glitters is not gold' absolutely right. Huge disappointment!"
