Beshalach: Taking that first step

In response to the children of Israel's cries of dismay when they see the Egyptians bearing down on them Moses turns to Hashem for help.  Ironically the answer is not quite as expected under the circumstances

Shemos 14:15. The Lord said to Moses, Why do you cry out to Me? Speak to the children of Israel and let them travel.

The point being is made is that Moses and Israel have already been assured of being guided in their steps.  These steps however, cannot be taken by Hashem but must come from each individual's will to move forward and take the actions based upon faith.

A similar paradigm runs through every situation where we are trying to break free of some negativity, darkness, or problem that seems to be weighing us down.  Once we realize that we are always guided along the way then we can move out of that undesirable situation and know that heaven is with us since by definition it is the greater that awaits us above.  The choice to move however, has to be ours.  We cannot wait to be prodded from above.  Still once we start moving then all the help that we know is there for us starts to come into the picture all as a direct result of our actions in taking that first step.

As we then start out on our journey away from the status quo there is one thing that we must do and this is alluded to here.

Shemos 14: 16. And you raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and split it, and the children of Israel shall come in the midst of the sea on dry land.

The raising of the staff symbolizes the ascendance of will over the status quo.  The familiar phrase 'where there is a will there is a way' speaks to this initial thrust of movement.

Then as the hand of will is stretched forth or activated what we intend to become or to see is paramount in Consciousness. It assumes all of the pictures that fill the minds eye.

Next passing the 'hand over the sea' signifies a split in Consciousness wherein we may push aside the status quo and invoke the new way of being; of thinking.

The 'children of Israel' represent the newly awakened way of being as our thoughts for this way of being come to the fore andder begin to assume a path in their own right no longer hindered by the status quo.  These thoughts are our hopes and dreams that may only be fulfilled by passing through the cast aside remnants of the status quo.

The 'dry land' is the clear path that make up literally as we go along.  It 'appears' because of our determination to follow the guidance of above so that our will and intention are aligned perfectly above.  We take the steps along this path trusting above that where we are going is the unity between our aspirations and the demonstration of those aspirations.

Where are going?  The answer as always is to the Promised Land.  This Promised Land turns out to be a promise that we make ourselves to become that which we are seeking knowing that as we go along what we will find is the unification of Consciousness known as Hashem.  Then we will know a the psalmist knew...

Tehillim 86:11 Teach me, O LORD, Thy way, that I may walk in Thy truth.make one my heart to fear Thy name.

May it be so…B"H
