A new "Berzerk" Eminem song has fans of the hip hop star excited to hear "Marshall Mathers LP 2." The new album was previewed in a teaser commercial during the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night, with a release date given that is quicker than many anticipated.
A report via MLive.com on Aug. 26 talks about the new song "Berzerk" and presents some of the lyrics that have been heard so far (via Rap Genius). The song is said to sample "The Stroke" by Billy Squier, and has a Beastie Boys sort of rock-vibe to it.
Among the lyrics that were heard from Mr. Mathers during the teaser ad were:
"Now this crib's about to kick off, this party looks whack
Let's take it back to straight hip-hop and start it from scratch
I'm bout to bloody this track up, everybody get back
That's why my Pen needs a pad cause my rhymes on the ra-haaag
(Just like I did with addiction I'm bout...)"
"The Stroke" was released from the 1981 album by Squier called "Don't Say No," and reached as high as No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100, and No. 3 on the US Billboard Rock tracks. Over the years, the song has been used in popular films including "Billy Madison" and "Blades of Glory," and it was sampled back in 2009 by Mickey Avalon. Avalon used the sample on his song "Stroke Me" which was featured in ads for a Duke Nukem video game.
The new song "Berzerk" is scheduled to drop on iTunes on Tuesday, Aug. 27 and it won't be surprising to see it quickly take over the top spot of the sales charts for singles. Eminem's new album, which will enlist Dr. Dre and Rick Rubin as executive producers, is scheduled to drop on Nov. 5, unless there happens to be some sort of delay or pushback.
