Maryville, Tenn.--The Berry College Men’s basketball team fell to Maryville College 85-68 today in a game that saw only two Vikings score in double figures.

Saturday’s match was an offensive struggle as Maryville’s defense held the Vikings to just 24% shooting in the first half.

The Vikings (3-4) have now lost three straight games including nail-biters against Piedmont and Oglethorpe.

Berry’s post player Owen Jacobs dropped a double-double and led all scorers with 23 points on 7-of-12 shooting while grabbing 11 rebounds. Senior guard Hunter Smoak added 13 points and went 3-of-7 from beyond the arc. There were few other bright spots in today’s game as none of the other Berry starters scored more than 7 points and the Vikings were a dismal 20% from three.

Maryville (2-5) had four players score in double digits and led by as much as 24. They also won the battle in all statistical categories with the exception of points in the paint.

The Vikings will have an opportunity to bounce back from the slump against Covenant College on December 11th in Lookout Mountain, GA. After that they will be preparing for the Daytona Shootout, a holiday tournament in Daytona, FL.
