I heard the news of Bernie Ward's sentencing from a press release, sent out by the U.S. Justice Deparment...or a contractor it hired.
Prosecutors patted themselves on the backs, like stars or athletes, for ridding the streets of this danger to society, a man who viewed disgusting and illegal images of children in sexual and painful poses.
But where were the other 100 people in the investigation? Where were their prosecutions? Where were the backslapping prosecutors for the people he was emailing with? Where was the investigation of them?
This was political judicial grandstanding at its worst, selective prosecution.
And just as I am writing this, Christine Craft is saying the exact same thing on KGO-AM (810) radio.
Bravo Christine.
It's a disgusting, unfair show by our Justice Department. Unless, that is, I'm going to receive press releases from them for prosecutions of all of the other child pornography viewers.

State sentencing for childporn convictions are more lenient than fed standards. This prosecution was driven by the re-engineered Washington DC DOJ who were able to go after their political enemy using the recently PROTECT federal legislation passed in 2003 which allows life sentences to be awarded for those trafficking/passing childporn. I didn't find out until the sentencing pdf was posted on abc7's local website.
Ward is serving more time for passing around some childporn pictures to a small email group (none of whom will be prosecuted) than most first time child abuse offenders receive for first time physical assaults on children.
Spending 7 years in fed prison does no good: Ward desparately needs counseling for his sick interest in childporn dating back to his own sexual abuse he received (or so he claims) as a young boy.
Well bush-rove must be celebrating, whooping it up now that've nearly destroyed the last liberal talkshow host on any major mainstream radio station.
Yes what Ward did is inexecusable and he needed to be stopped but still adult sexual predators should receive much longer sentences than he did.
Craft is standing by Ward only because he was a former colleague (gag me), they all say this is their line of work. She was saying this is selective prosecution because she's a lawyer, you know. So? The court is making an example out of someone who's high profile. As for the other 100 or so people who were involved in viewing the distributed child porn, they're nobodies, they got away. No use crying for babyface Ward who likes children, or photos thereof.
Let me understand the writer's views correctly. You are not happy about about this guy getting arrested because other people didn't get arrested (or has yet to be seen if they do). So you lame response is like a 5th grader caught smoking in th ebathroom yelling "HE DID IT TO"..Which I suspect, brings you some sort of "share the blame" so you don't look "just as wrong". You know it just occurred to me. I used to say where are all the Stupid people in the world - and thank god for the internet - they bring them out everywhere!
I've lived an awfully long time and thank God I have had a wonderful fullfilling life. One of my joys was listening to Bernie. His sharp intellect, his love, yes, unconditional love for all people was evident. I had always wondered how long it would be until someone jealous of his success would find "something" to "get him" and take him off the air. Showing a "sexfairy" a porno picture was one way of finding out about her. That was her hobby. Is she under scrutiny, now? Bernie admitted his guilt and I was hurt because he had broken a law. But a sentence of that magnitude? They got rid of him but what good did it do his family, those of us who appreciated his liberal and practical viewpoint, KGO? I am just one 87 year old listener but KGO is silent in my house. The Charities he supported will certainly miss his Thanksgiving project. Thanks to Kava and Kraft for their good sense and loyalty. Keep it up I can at least see "Bernie Alerts" on my computer
Of course, the decision to prosecute Bernie Ward was made, at least, in part by the Feds, on the basis of his outspoken critisism of the the Bush/Cheny cabal, now in power in Washington. A comparison of the "no mercy", treatment that Bernie's case has recieved, at the hands of the Feds, to the "mercy", that Rush Limbaugh, has recieved, for his major violation of the drug laws, & G.W's commutinng of the prison sentence imposed on "Scooter" Libby for his TREASONIST act of the "outing" of an udercover C.I.A. operative, come to mind. However this is NOT to say that Bernie is blameless in this matter, to the contrary, society might be justified in giving Bernie a break on this matter, IF he had only "downloaded", the objectionable material, & then, when caught, had he been honest with the court, & admitted that he had "problems", & then thrown himself on the mercy of the court,..then, perhaps "treatment", in liew of "prison" would have been in order,..But no,..Bernie, did Not merely, down load, but rather forwarded the "unacceptable material" to "other", sick & perverted individuals, like himself, & then when caught, he comes up with that rediculous "research" ploy,..So while, on one hand, Bernie may, indeed be a "victim" of "selective" prosecution, he is NOT an "innocent", victim, as he did, through his "volumtary" actions, bring all this down upon himself, & his family,..& to those who say that Bernie should e given a break, becuse he did not "actually harm", any child, I would have to say that Bernie was a part of a vile & insidious network, of vile, sick, demented, & often violent individuals, that do "collectively' harm children,..& finally, I do not doubt Bernie, when he says that he himself was "molested' as a youth, & I would not be supprised if such "molestation" was the "cause" of Bernie's,...problems today ,..& so we see yesterday's victims, becoming today's perpatrators,..as will today, victims, perhaps, become tomarrows perpatrators,..& so on & on it goes,..Such appears to be the state of our collective "humam condition". today,...
as they say from his last employer, KGO-Talk Radio, he was considered a distinguished colleague by his fellow peers. BAA, ha, ha. Now he's a fellow in prison where more fellows will try to get to him.
I'm glad that Bernie Wards prison sentence was so "unfair" because of the Bush/Cheny cabal. Not only that, I think it was Bush/Cheny that made the Mayor have that relationship with his friends wife. Not only that, I think it is Bush/Cheny that .... gosh, I just realized, it has always been Bush/Cheney.
bernie ward is a great man. think of all his work for the thanksgiving charity. he is also an investigative reporter who won a howard scripps award for sexual abuse in the archdiosces of california. he also has no priors. hopefully people will lobby for his release

Ward has gotten less than he deserved...molesting children is about as low as it gets. He is a human error,
a biological mistake, an evil dirtbag who really should have gotten life with no parole. He is also grossly stupid in his political beliefs, and defends nambla as well. He has no place in a civilized society. I doubt he was molested as a child, it's a lie, just like his book "research" story. It's sad his wife, who I'm sure knew all along about his evil, abnormal perversions, did nothing to expose the anomaly and protect her children from him. Hopefully he is receiving his justice in prison, daily.
