October 3, 2013

When people think of California wine, some will think of Napa Valley, Santa Barbara or maybe Sonoma Valley. But will they think of San Diego? Not likely, but San Diego has its own community of wineries producing some wonderfully tasting hand-crafted wines. One of the more popular wineries is Bernardo Winery located in San Diego's North County.

Bernardo Winery was founded in 1889 making it the oldest winery in San Diego County and the oldest continuously operating winery in Southern California. Bernardo Winery isn't just a winery, however. It's a destination.

The 36th Annual Fall Arts & Crafts Fair is one of the largest All Artisan Fairs in San Diego County and will be taking place at the Bernardo Winery on October 19 and 20, 2013. Listen to live music as you browse more than 130 artists and crafters booths. Admission and parking is free.

Afterwards, take time to explore the old tractors, rustic farm equipment, wine making equipment, and centuries-old buildings located throughout the property, as well as shop at the numerous art studios and other unique shops. Relax in the beautiful gardens or pull up a chair at the award-winning Cafe Merlot for lunch. Be sure to stop by the Wine Tasting Room & Gift Shop to sample over 30 wines and pick up a bottle or two of your favorite before the day is over.

Bernardo Winery is located just 25-miles north of downtown San Diego at 13330 Paseo Del Verano Norte, San Diego, CA 92128.
