Bermuda shorts are the fashion focus for 2013

For the past few years, short-shorts have been the must have style for both the spring and summer seasons. The shorter the shorts, the more in vogue you were. This year, bermuda shorts otherwise known as knee length shorts, have taken their place in the seasonal style of short wear. Denim is the favored shorts to date and the faded finish is winning in sales throughout Travis County.

As is often the case in fashion, menswear styles have influenced women's wear every few years. Now women can be styling knee length shorts, just as the men have been doing for the last decade or so. "Sometimes it takes a while for the length of the shorts to be accepted into mainstream America. Women love the versatility of the length. They can wear them as is or cuff them to give the shorts a different look. And if you buy the denim ones, you have selected the winner in style and fabrication," explains Harriet Ausland. Ausland is a fashion consultant for various boutiques throughout Texas and she is a fashion maven who knows what to buy every season to refresh your wardrobe on a limited budget.

Selections vary at boutiques and department stores throughout Austin. Colors include teal, coral, black, white, purple, pink and mint green. The months of April through October in Texas are considered borderline spring and summer hits by May. "By May, the sales of shorts in the entire state are in full swing. Actually, sales begin in March due to our weather. For the greater part of the calendar year, shorts are seen on the fashion scene in the capitol city and the state. Texas is not the only state with this weather and sales are healthy in Florida, California, Arizona and New Mexico as well."

In Austin and San Antonio, shorts have in fact become a wardrobe staple year round. In December, students from middle school through graduate school are wearing shorts when the temperature may only be in the high 50's. While most women in the 25 plus age range do not follow these guidelines, the bermuda short just may change their fashion focus. Ausland adds, "The longer shorts cover more of your leg keeping you warm. Paired with ankle boots and the appropriate attire on top, this makes a fresh fashion statement. Looking ahead, we think that the bermuda shorts will be selling strongly well into 2014 and beyond. It makes sense for women who want different looks but may only have a certain amount of money to create unique outfits. Knee length lets you have short shorts, knee length shorts and the cuffed look. It has been a fashion item that has been waiting to be embraced and look around you. They are everywhere."

Indeed they are. If you don't own a pair yet, denim is the way to go for your first pair. If you fall in love with the look, the bold colors are always available and you can add more of these knee length shorts to your 2013 and 2014 wardrobe. The fact that you can wear them at whatever length you want is a major selling point and a major buying point. Loving the knee length look, many women opt to wear them without cuffs at all. "The look is not quite that of shorts as we knew them, nor are they capris. The emphasis on the length has added a new look to the 2013-2014 fashion runway. Quite honestly, I wonder why it took so long for the bermuda shorts to make it on the A list of fashion. They look great on everyone," details Ausland.

Confessing that you may have saved a couple of pairs because you always loved this look is important because that explains why you need to re-vamp your summer attire just a bit. Add a little color and go for the bold and the beautiful! But make sure that you have your denim bermuda shorts on hand at all times. Texas mornings may have a slight chill but Texas afternoons are another story. You just may want to change into your new style shorts by noon when the 60 degree morning has transformed into a 95 degree day. Either way, enjoy the look. However you wear these shorts, you are going to look fabulous!
