With the fall of the wall a booming tourism industry emerged in Germany. Berlin is among the more affordable destinations and is the hub of these moments in history. Over 70 million international visitors stayed in Berlin 2013 and the numbers are rising.

According to Petra Hedorfer, Chief Executive Officer of the German National Tourist Board (GNTB) “Since 1993, when inbound tourism statistics were first recorded for the country as a whole, the number of overnight stays by foreign visitors in Germany has almost doubled.”

There are three UNESCO World Heritage sites and 180 museums and memorial sites. Berlin is also the center of such symbols of German reunification and the end of the Cold War as the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag, brightly-painted sections of the wall, and the former border crossing point known as Checkpoint Charlie.

Berlin’s renowned arts and cultural scene flourishes once again. There are fourteen Michelin-starred restaurants, improved transportation options, spas, and woodlands.

There’s no better time to visit than this historically significant time. One of the best deals is the Berlin Welcome Card, which includes free use of all public transport, a travel guide with tour suggestions, and discounts on attractions, tours, restaurants, and services.
