Berkland Predicts Major California Quake with a March 19 to 26 Window

Major Quake Predicted for California in March by Former USGS Geologist Jim Berkland

Former USGS geologist Jim Berkland predicts a major earthquake in California this month. When recently interviewed on Fox news and Coast to Coast AM, Berkland predicted a major earthquake for California during the window from March 19 and 26, 2011.

Berkland uses tidal flooding tables based upon the lunar perigee (moon closest to earth) and the twice monthly alignment of the sun and the moon, which affects gravitational pull on the earth. He also considers bizarre animal behavior such as mass beaching of whales, dolphins, and fish, as well as unusual domestic animal behavior and ads for lost or runaway pets, which according to Berkland increase shortly before earthquakes. He stresses that, in addition to the close proximity of the moon to earth, we will experience the highest tides in 18 years during that March window.

Berkland attributes these curious behaviors to radical changes in the Earth's magnetic field just before earthquakes in the general area of the quakes. He says that, when these changes occur, they interfere with sea mammals and migratory bird’s ability to navigate, and that even dogs and cats sense these disruptions, explaining the increased number of runaway-pet reports.

Jim Berkland, now retired, was a USGS geologist for 21 years, and the first County Geologist for Santa Clara County in northern California. He has been a popular guest on many network news programs and talk shows on the subject of earthquake prediction.

In October 1989, Berkland was suspended for two months from his Santa Clara County geology position for predicting the “World Series Quake” one day before the start of baseball’s 1989 World Series. In an interview with a reporter, he made a prediction that a major earthquake would occur in the San Francisco Bay Area within days. The Loma Prieta earthquake occurred on October 17, just before the start of the third game of the Series.

Fearing mass panic, Berkland was advised by government officials not to make any more predictions.

Now Berkland is back with his strongest prediction since the 1980s, that a major earthquake will strike California during the March 19 and 26 window.  Fans of Berkland find logic in his method and maintain that he has an 80% accuracy rate.
