Berkeley Hall staff member recognized for saving life of local man

Derek Lemire, exercise physiologist at the Berkeley Hall Spa & Fitness Center, was recognized at the Bluffton Town Council meeting Monday night for saving the life of Bluffton resident Richard Frankoski, after he collapsed on the tennis court at the Hilton Head-area golf community.

"I feel very honored," Lemire said after receiving the award.

Berkeley Hall officials said Lemire, who provides initial and refresher courses in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) to their staff managers, rushed to aid Frankoski after he suffered a massive heart attack on the tennis courts last year.  Lemire also delivered an AED shock to Frankoski.

The American Red Cross honored Lemire with the Lifesaving Certificate of Merit Award for "lifesaving as a direct result of the American Red Cross training in health and safety programs." This citation he received is the highest award given by the American Red Cross and was submitted to the White House for recognition by the President of the United States.
