Celebrate the reopening of Berkeley-East Bay Humane Society on Friday, January 21
The Berkeley-East Bay Humane Society is reopening after the devastating fire last May that left the 83-year old institution homeless. Following months of planning, clean-up and repairs, the award-winning animal welfare organization was granted permission by the City of Berkeley to temporarily occupy approximately one-fifth of the facility until the final rebuilding phase begins. The non-profit organization, which receives no public funds, is currently waiting on proposals and cost projections for the final reconstructive phase of its antiquated facility.
In the interim, regaining access to the facility allows Berkeley Humane to re-open its weekly spay and neuter clinic, hold adoptions on the premises every Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm, and provide medical treatment to its shelter animals. Hungry Kitties in the East Bay Need Your Help
Hungry Kitty, an Oakland based nonprofit, is asking for donations of food to support its work to feed stray and feral cats in that city. Headed by Pat Smyklo and Ellen Lynch, the organization’s goal is to help independent feral cat trappers with food as well as funding to offset veterinary expenses. The organization also assists individuals who are feeding cats but not fixing them in Oakland neighborhoods. In those cases, Hungry Kitty helps to get cats fixed and provides food assistance.
