Benzino, 'Love and Hip Hop' star shot by nephew in mom's funeral procession

Reality show star Ray Benzino was shot by his nephew while riding in his mother's funeral procession over the weekend. Benzino is the star of “Love and Hip Hop” Atlanta, which is a reality show from VH1. He was in his home state of Massachusetts when he was shot.

Police say Benzino was traveling on Rt. 3 in Boston when his nephew pulled up alongside of him in a car and started shooting, according to on March 30.

Benzino got out of the car and a passerby took him to the Marlboro, Mass. Police Station, where he was then transported to an area hospital. The 48-year-old Benzino was shot in the arm and a bullet also grazed his back.

His 36-year-old nephew, Gai Scott was named as the shooter. Benzino is listed in good condition in the hospital. Police went to the scene of the shooting and found Benzino’s red SUV in the middle of the road with bullet holes in it.

They also noticed what looked like blood dripping inside the vehicle. Police also found shell casings and projectiles at the scene. Scott, who hails from Randolph, Mass. was charged with “assault with attempt to murder.”

Besides knowing Benzino from the VH1 reality show, you may remember him as the former owner of The Source Magazine. Benzino will be in the third season of “Love and Hip Hop” Atlanta when the season begins airing in May.
