Death Cab for Cutie front man Benjamin Gibbard is against brunch. The singer tweeted his hatred of brunch to fans on Sunday.

Gibbard ranted breakfast is mad at the lazy (mother expletives) eating it at 1 p.m. and calling it brunch. Several of his followers agreed. The post received 219 retweets and was favorite 353 times.

Gibbard married “New Girl” actress Zooey Deschanel in 2009. The couple split two years later and divorced in 2012. Perhaps she was a fan of his hated meal?

He also reportedly gave up alcohol in 2008 when he began running marathons. Perhaps this has something to do with his feelings. Travis Kern shared his theory that brunch is just a loophole that makes it okay to eat bacon and eggs while drinking beer. Others agreed that the meal makes it okay to get drunk on champagne mimosas or bloody Mary’s on a Sunday morning.

Others said they eat breakfast food all day long, even for dinner. Many refer to this practice as “brinner,” short for “breakfast for dinner.”

According to dictionary.com, brunch can be used as either a noun or a verb. It is defined as a meal that serves as both breakfast and lunch. It can also be used to describe the act of eating the meal, for example, “The Jolie-Pitt family brunch at 11:30 on Saturday mornings.”

It is not uncommon for restaurants to have a weekend brunch menu. Many have both breakfast and lunch items on the menu. One member of party might order an omelet while another has a cheeseburger and fries. Even popular chain restaurants like Applebees and Ruby Tuesdays have gotten in on the popular weekend morning offerings.

Do you agree with Benjamin Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie that brunch is simply lame or do you enjoy going out for a mid-morning restaurant meal?
