When asked of his response to the September 11, 2012 terrorist attack on the United States Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, Barack Obama gave instead a humorous anecdote as televised on the CBS television show 60 Minutes, which aired on Jan. 27, 2013 (see video, lower left).
Host Steve Kroft asked both the Chief Executive and the outgoing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton of their respective responses, and after a diatribe that had nothing to do with the question, Obama eventually stated:
"You know, I remember [former Secretary of Defense] Bob Gates, you know, first thing he said to me, I think maybe first week or two that I was there and we were meeting in the Oval Office and he, obviously, been through seven presidents or something.
And he says, 'Mr. President, one thing I can guarantee you is that at this moment, somewhere, somehow, somebody in the federal government is screwing up.'"
His response brought on guffaws of laughter by the woman who many consider to be the frontrunner in the battle for the 2016 Democratic Presidential primaries.
