One of the Dogtown originals, Jim Muir (aka, "Red Dog") was a member of the famed Zephyr team, along with other notorious skateboarders like Stacy Peralta, Tony Alva and Jay Adams.
That was back in the 70’s.
A lot went on since then but today he still owns Dogtown Skateboards, the company he founded at the age of 18.
Unfortunately, last March, Jim suffered an accident while surfing at Westwards Beach; his head hit the bottom, severely injuring his neck and paralyzing him instantly.
Although he escaped death by drowning (thanks to the action of fellow surfers and local lifeguards), he had to undergo emergency surgery followed by acute rehab. Since then, he has been enduring extensive physical therapy to regain movements of limbs.
Although he is reportedly doing better lately, he still needs help and, with that in mind, a benefit concert is going to be held this next Thursday, August 20th, at the Air Conditioned Supper Club (625 Lincoln Blvd, Venice, CA 90231 – 310-230-5343).
The doors open at 7:30 PM and a showing of Stacy Peralta’s movie “Dogtown and Z-Boys” is scheduled for 8PM.
After that, live performances by Duane Peters Gunfight, Ray Barbee, P.F.L. (Punk for Life) and DJ Fluffy.
Throughout the evening, an auction of skateboard art will also take place, featuring the works of Kevin Ancell, Steve Caballero, Andy Howell, Wes Humpston, Bryce Kanights, Natas Kaupas, John Lucero, Lance Mountain, Pat Ngoho, Chris Pastras, Jimbo Phillips, Russ Pope, C.R. Stecyk III and several others.
