J.J. Abrams' highly anticipated "Star Trek Into Darkness" isn't set to hit theaters until May and he is keeping a tight lid on the film much to everyone's dismay, including Benedict Cumberbatch. The pair have recently given fans a few nuggets of information though, especially concerning Cumberbatch's villainous character (EW, Jan.7)
“It’s achingly irritating,” Cumberbatch says of not being able to really discuss his character in the film “Believe me, I’d rather talk about the role and the fantastic story and all the things J.J. [Abrams] has come up with. And then everyone would be as excited about the film as I am. But then of course I think I would be on a phone call coming from J.J.’s office…”
One of the biggest mysteries of "Into Darkness" is who Cumberbatch's character is. Most speculated that the "Sherlock" star was indeed playing Khan Noonien Singh however Abrams said nope. Benedict will be playing John Harrison and he is just "an average guy" with an "amazing secret agenda."
Abrams is very happy with the actors portrayal. “I just can’t wait for people to see the movie. Benedict is unbelievable. It’s a tall order, coming into that movie, because the crew of the Enterprise – that cast – is so damn good and they’re wonderful to work with and they’re all good hearts... And he completely did it. I not only love him in the movie, but I love him, as a human being. He’s an amazing guy. I can’t wait for people to see the movie and experience what he’s done.”
Abrams also there were a lot of things he wishes he had done in the first movie that he was able to do this time around. And while the trailers and promotional materials that have been released paint a dark picture for the movie, it isn't all dark, it has a happy ending.
"Sherlock" fans will be glad to know that filming begins for the third season in March.
