The pain a victim experiences in a domestic violent relationship leaves scars that can last a lifetime. The emotional and psychological abuse affects them in every area of their life. A woman that has successfully removed herself from a relationship where violence occurred are described as survivors. The term survivor means to remain alive after an event in which many others died. The sad reality remains that there are so many victims that have lost their lives to domestic violence and are no longer alive to tell their stories. There have been many instances where survival stories have uplifted so many people and changed their way of viewing domestic violence all because of their heroic efforts to live. The majority of survivors will tell you that behind their smile is lies so much pain.
They often times relive their horrible experiences, have nightmares, PTSD, anxiety, and have trouble establishing and maintaining relationships after being abused. Their inner strength and the will to live were the main things that provided them the motivation to finally leave for good. The pain a victim has encountered does not go away over night and for some victims it may takes years of therapy to finally find peace with the situation. It is important for victims and survivors both to have a good support system in place to help them navigate through the pain and get through the long road of becoming a confident woman again. Beneath the pain lies a beautiful and strong woman ready to take on her life again!
