Crispy tomato and mozzarella with a sugar-rimmed sidecar.
Ben is doing it again; with Ben’s Next Door, which is right next door to Ben’s Chili Bowl. What can be expected from next door? While a Chili dog can still be ordered there, there is more to order, the menu includes steak, seafood, and ribs, just to name a few items. The crispy tomato and mozzarella is glazed in extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette. It was crispy on the outside without the fried greasy feeling to it, but refreshingly soft on the inside with the squishy goodness of a fresh ripe tomato. It's a light appetizer, but delicious and tasty.
The setting is comfortable, but a little crowded, but on a Friday night this should be expected anywhere you go. The staff was friendly and courteous it made me feel as if I was the only one there. “How’s everything do you need a box or are you still working on that.” said a passing by waitress. She was very attentive and everyone else who worked there was as well. It felt like everyone was there to please the guests even if this was not their guest that they were catering to. Let’s face it on a Friday night things can get a little busy and it always helps when people stop and take the time to check on you.
The burger was delicious, it was not too big to fight to fit in your mouth, or too small as to not be enough, it was just the right size. Seasoned with crackled black pepper and salt and served with a side of fries and Cole slaw. The Chocolate City Kiss Martini is the perfect after dinner liquid dessert, the chocolate that was wrapped around the glass melted off and into your mouth; it was a delicious after dinner liqueur. It was a good experience overall with a happy ending to this restaurant story.
