Ben Howard, Emeli Sande lead early 2013 Brit Award winners

Recording artists Ben Howard, Emeli Sande and Mumford & Sons were leading winners at the 2013 Brit Awards in London Wednesday, Feb. 20.

Accepting the first award of the night, "Next To Me" singer Emeli Sande said it felt amazing to take the stage and receive the honor.

"Wow. Thank you everybody. This feels amazing. This is incredible. I'm so happy to win this award. I don't really know what to say. Thank you to everyone. Thank you to my family, my incredible husband, Virgin Records and EMI. Thank you so much," Sande said accepting the Best British Female Solo Artist award Wednesday.

Ben Howard led the pack with two wins within the first hour of the ceremony, including Best British Breakthrough Act.

Accepting his second award, Best British Male Solo Artist, Howard claimed to be surprised that he was the winner.

"Thank you very much. I didn't really expect (this). It's a real privilege to get this. Thank you very much. Cheers," said Howard.

Mumford & Sons also won the award for Best British Group.

Featuring performances from Justin Timberlake and Emeli Sande, the 2013 Brit Awards took place at the O2 Arena in London.
