The cape crusader has been unmasked once again. On Thursday, August 22 The Hollywood Reporter revealed that actor Ben Affleck has been cast as Batman in "Man of Steel 2" which is scheduled for release on July 17, 2015. After the film was announced at San Diego Comic-con earlier this summer, new details emerged from director Zack Snyder that both Batman and Superman would be appearing in the sequel. Christian Bale made it clear that he would not appear as Batman in another film shortly after.
"Man of Steel 2" will mark the first time that both Superman and Batman will appear in a movie together. Henry Cavill will also reprise the role of Superman for the next film. Affleck had the lead role in the 2003 superhero film "Daredevil," about a blind man who fights crime in New York City.
Affleck is the eighth actor to play Batman after Adam West, George Clooney, Val Kilmer, Michael Keaton, and Christian Bale. The actor has appeared in dozens of films and won an Oscar for writing for "Good Will Hunting" and the Academy Award for Best Picture for the thriller "Argo," last year. Production is expected to begin in early 2014 and the script is being written by David S. Goyer.
