Fresh off the news that Ben Affleck has signed on to play Batman, a new rumor is circulating that Detroit may stand in for Gotham City when the new film, tentatively entitled 'Man of Steel 2', begins filming in 2014. According to Latino Review, production crews for the film have been scouting locations around the Motor City with an eye toward turning it into the next Gotham.
As Transformers 4 wraps up downtown and geeks everywhere are losing their collective minds over the news that Affleck will be playing the caped crusader - even circulating a petition with over 64,000 signatures, seeking to ban Affleck as Batman - film industry insiders seem convinced that Detroit will be one of the locations used for the film. Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy previously utilized Chicago, Pittsburgh and New York City as Gotham, sometimes simultaneously and the crew is also said to have heavily scouted Morocco, which was used in the film 'Inception', also produced by Nolan. Latino Review also speculated that Morocco could serve as the perfect desert location for either Bruce Wayne or Lex Luther to discover kryptonite,
If this is true, it could be a much needed boost for Michigan's film business, which has slowed recently due to Governor Rick Snyder cutting the film incentive.Only time will tell if Affleck and crew will be coming to Detroit but the possibility looks awfully promising.
