Beltline Master Plan
The Atlanta Beltline announced an agreement late Thursday that puts the $2.8 billion redevelopment project significantly ahead of schedule in land acquisition.
Atlanta Beltline, Inc. and the Georgia Department of Transportation came to terms on an arrangement that leases a 3.48 mile stretch of land to ABI with exclusive rights to purchase the property until June 30, 2012.
The acquisition falls in line with the group’s Five-Year Work plan, which calls for obtaining 35-37 percent of the Beltline Right of Way by July 2011.
Following Thursday’s agreement, 48 percent of the desired 22-mile loop is now under ABI control, which ABI President and CEO Terri Montague lauded as an opportunity to grant residents the opportunity to experience the Beltline vision sooner than expected.
“This agreement will allow ABI to continue transit and trail planning activities and open parts of the corridor up to the public within the next year.”
ABI is currently partnering with MARTA to complete an Environmental Impact Statement to determine how the property will ultimately be best utilized.
