Below zero temperatures and wind chills for Friday morning

Arctic high pressure settles into the Great Lakes tonight helping to produce wicked wind chill readings for Friday morning across West Michigan. The wind will not be the big issue but simply the extreme cold. The Grand Rapids National Weather Service issued a Wind Chill Advisory until 11 AM Friday for all of West Michigan. Temperatures on Thursday were only in the single numbers and will fall rapidly once the sun sets. The actual air temperature tonight should dip to -5° to -15°. The record low for Friday morning in Grand Rapids is -2° set in 1970. That record will likely fall. Even a light breeze will push the wind chill readings down to 15 to 25 degrees below zero for Friday morning. This is the dangerous category with frostbite times of 30 minutes or less. Dress warm and limit your exposure.
