Mostly cloudy, breezy, and chilly conditions are in store for the Capital Region and vicinity today as a fast moving system, reminiscent of an Alberta clipper, rides along the Canadian border. As this system passes to our north today, we will see the cloud cover on the southern periphery of it. In addition, some chilly showers may be scattered about over the Greater Capital District, and areas north and west. There may even be some wet snow mixing in over the higher elevations. Southwest breezes will become quite prominent this afternoon, and it may be a bit blustery at times.
The system sweeps northeast of the region tonight, and should be but a distant memory by Sunday morning. Any residual showers and clouds should dissipate during the morning hours. The winds will shift to the west, and eventually northwest, through the day and become gusty once again. Cooler air will once again be travelling over the lake Ontario, and thus lake effect clouds and a few rain showers may make their way down the Mohawk Valley during the day. At this point, it looks like the Capital Region will just see some times in increased cloud cover. Precipitation looks to remain well north and west of the immediate area.
The active weather pattern, featuring fast moving weather systems, looks to persist through the coming work week. This should keep temperatures near to slightly below normal, with intervals of light rain and/or wet snow (higher elevations) every 24 to 36 hours, as these systems quickly accelerate through the region. A particularly stronger system looks to impact the region late next week, but perhaps sparing Halloween itself.
