Suffolk County (New York) homicide detectives are continuing to investigate the death of beloved horse-trainer Ross Reisner.
Reisner, 50, was found shot to death in his Setauket home Tueday. According to police, whoever committed the murder fired several shots through a window hitting Reisner in the chest, and grazing the arm of his domestic partner Kevin Murray.
Murray told police that the pair had received a box containing a dead bird approximately four months ago. That, and a harassment report report filed by Murray against a former tenant Brett C. Knight, who lived in a basement apartment at the Upper Sheep Pasture Rd. residence are being examined as evidence However, it should be stated that no one knows (at this time) who sent the ominous package.
Knight, 45, was charged with second-degree harassment (a misdemeanor), but failed to appear to answer the charges in First District Court on September 4th. Awarrant has been issued for his arrest.
Ross Reisner was a trainer and riding instructor for more than 20 years, as well as a regular fixture at the Hampton Classic each season.
“His students loved him. It is a big loss,” stated Shanette Cohen, executive director of the Hampton Classic Horse Show.
“As soon as our lessons were over, Ross was a friend, peer, fashion consultant and comedian,” added Jessica Weil, a partner in Lloyd Harbor Equestrian Center, who rode and trained with him. “It’s s shock to realize he will no longer be part of our lives.”
