What are the odds of California Chrome turning out to be the first horse of the 21st Century to win horse racing’s Triple Crown?
The early lines on the Belmont Stakes 2014 are out. California Chrome is -130 or 10/13 odds, a prohibitive favorite, but well short of Smarty Jones 2/5 odds on race day for the 2004 Belmont Stakes. California Chrome will attempt to become the first horse since Affirmed in 1978 to win the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing.
Danza and Commanding Curve are the most likely to spoil the party at +800 or 8/1, followed closely by Tonalist and Wicked Strong at +1,000. One can also ante against California Chrome securing the Triple Crown at even money. The Harris Ranch product will have to start for action.
That is no small proviso as trainer Art Sherman is maintaining his prized pedigree may not run if he is not allowed to wear a nasal strip. Sherman said the breathing device, much like that made famous by the NFL’s Jerry Rice, is especially necessary for the 1.5 mile race.
Among other contenders, Social Inclusion is +1200, while Ride On Curlin is +1500. Joe Duffy’s Picks nailed California Chrome to win the Preakness Stakes and Kentucky Derby and is going for his fourth Triple Crown winner in 15 years. OffshoreInsiders.com will have the picks on race day.
