The “dance card” for Belmont Stakes Day June 7th is expected to fill up rapidly with the addition of five action packed stakes races, turning it into a “mini Breeder’s Cup-like” event.

In addition to the third jewel of thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown, the NYRA has chosen to run 10 stakes and three allowance races including the Manhattan and Easy Goer (traditionally held the same day) along with the $1.25 million Met Mile (usually held Memorial Day), plus the $1 million Ogden Phipps, $750,000 Acorn Stakes for fillies, the $500.000 Brooklyn Handicap and the $300,000 Jaipur.

“We have put together the finest day of racing in Belmont Stakes history. We wanted to create a day that would grab people’s attention in classic, biggest-than-life New York Style,” exclaimed NYRA President and CEO Chris Kay, who added that they are looking to attract anywhere between 70,000-90,000 people to the track, even if there if no Triple Crown on line this year.

The Belmont Stakes, itself, will still remain the “centerpiece” of a 3-day festival that will begin the Friday before and carry over through Sunday. Ticket information will be released some time next month.
