Belly dance has taken the city of Perry by storm. Typically known for its historic homes and antique stores, the quaint town of Perry, GA is quickly becoming known as the newest hot spot for belly dancing.
The first belly dance class was held at the Perry Arts Center on January 5th, 2010 and was a great success. Women of all ages and sizes donned hip scarves and moved to the rhythm of middle-eastern music.
The ladies learned that belly dance is a great way to improve health, posture and self-esteem. It is also a great way to have fun with other women and to escape from the stress of daily life.
According to first-time student Janet Pennington…
“I was looking for a way to spend time with my daughter and get some exercise. When we heard that belly dance lessons were starting in Perry, we were intrigued and decided to check it out. I was a little nervous before the first class; I’m not much of a dancer. But it turned out to be such a relaxed atmosphere, and the instructor was very patient with us and she’s a lot of fun. I didn’t realize what a great workout it is!”
Alicia Lopez, a junior at Perry High School attended the first lesson with her classmate Erin Krovo. “We had so much fun! Everyone is here to have a good time and the instructor made it very easy.”
The classes are every Tuesday and Thursday from 6-7pm at the Perry Arts Center, in downtown Perry. The first class is free, and the public is welcome try it out.
