"Bellevue Center recently announced plans for redevelopment of the existing mall with small shops moving to the first floors," said a beautiful, full-color, card stock 4-page newsletter mailed to Bellevue residents in August of 2002. The brochure carried the headline: Bellevue Center Announces Redevelopment Plans and included details such as the addition of seven new stores ranging in size from 15,00 to 100,000 square feet.

"Redevelopment will bring new retail venues to Bellevue Center, as well as new growth and opportunity in the Bellevue market, more tax revenue for Davidson County, more jobs for Middle Tennessee and the fulfillment of the dream that began when Bellevue Mall was first built in 1990," said David Allison, General Manager of Bellevue Center.

The newsletter went on to describe the addition of a Wal-Mart west of Dillard's, a new parking deck to be constructed near the south entrance to the mall between Dillard's and Hechts/Macy's, creation of an outdoor plaza with a water feature which would serve as a new location for restaurants and related businesses, and a new glass atrium for the south main entrance. Of course, none of that happened as stores closed their doors, one by one, leaving only Sears and the Sears auto center. As reported in What is going on with the Bellevue mall? discussions continue to swirl about redevelopment since the mall closed in 2009. So far nothing has happened except the discussions and the disintegration of the mall property.
