If your cat is named “Bella” or "Max,” you are far from alone. For the second straight year, Bella and Max were the most popular cat names in 2013, according to a new study by a major pet insurance company.
Rounding out the list of the top 10 most common cat names last year were Chloe, Oliver, Lucy, Charlie, Sophie, Lily, Shadow and Tiger, said Veterinary Pet Insurance Co. (VPI), which compiled the rankings by sorting its database of more than 500,000 insured pets. Names that were “trending upward” included “Luna” and “Milo,” VPI said.
A similar list was compiled for dogs and can be viewed here.
While human names were the most popular cat names, underscoring the close bond that cat owners have with their pets, less conventional names were also abundant, including Cheeto Burrito, Fuzzbutt, Mama Pajama and Lady Fluffington, VPI said. The company, based in Orange County, Calif., posted a list of its most popular “wacky” pet names here.
