Yesterday, Belk announced their Spring Fashion 2012, entitled “Bright Now”, featuring bold colors, statement patterns and new cuts; all currently on-trend for women’s fashion.
This Spring we will see a major change in Fashion we haven’t seen since the ‘80’s, with color blocking, color banding, color clashing and any creative use of color in apparel, shoes and accessories possible, making the Belk’s Spring 2012 “Bright Now” the perfect name for their upcoming fashion collections.
Belk doesn’t expect us all to climb on the color crazed stage, knowing that many of us prefer to stick closer to the classics, with just a peeping of the current trends on our toes or in our scarves. So, with a nod to the classics, Belk introduces “American Originals”, a trend with both fit and flare silhouettes, featuring high waists, banding, bare shoulders, release pleats and new longer lengths on familiar styles. In this selection, patterns are hot, with stripes, dots and even tropicals giving you happy-go-lucky patterns to brighten your wardrobe. Textiles are the thing too, with eyelet, silks, crisp cotton and colored denim topping the list of textiles you will want to own. Don’t forget to accessorize your American Original look with current gold chains (yes, gold!), big bracelets and hoops. And shoes, oh the shoes! Comfort is in, with fashion wedges and ballet flats, so get ready to loosen up and live a little this spring. Finish your look with satchels that sport rigid handles and any accessory that includes bright whites or bold pops of color. This year, it’s definitely classics with a twist of color, making a fun yet classic fashion statement for spring.
Asymmetry is another big, bold statement this year, says Belk's fashion guru, Arlene Goldstein*; Vice President of Trend Merchandising and Fashion Direction for Belk, Inc. With the Belk's Shape Shift trend statement offering tons of style with little effort, this look features architectural flair with angular sleeve treatments, stand collars and daringly uneven hemlines. Along with Shape Shift, mix the bold and the beautiful of stripes and color blocking in black and white with synthetics such as high-gloss finishes on cottons, silks and knits, for that 2012 look of tomorrow.
Next in the Belks’ line-up is So Pretty, a romantically floral look that touts tonal embroideries, corsage embellishments and pretty ruffles and pleats, for that soft, feminine "unfocused" look you have asked for. Added to this look tons of lace, eyelet, sheers and satins, for all the girly fru-fru you desire. The floral motifs also show up on shoes, handbags and jewelry, for that small feminine touch you crave when wearing simple jeans and a gingham shirt.
The 70’s are back, AGAIN, but this time, it’s the 70’s Glam style in Yves Saint Laurent fashion. A testament to the legacy left by the fabulous glam designer, this trend offers daring color, modern safari and Boho chic with a definite modern twist. With sophisticated fabrics added to shine, maxi lengths and wide legs, this statement is definitely 70’s 2.0. Open silks in lacy patterns, beautifully moving silks and sheers bring a sexiness not before seen in the 70’s glam. The prints, from Missoni-like animal to exotic topical, dare go where no glam has gone before, adding character to the look. Add to this style, floppy brimmed hats, bangles and cuffs, and you are ready to let your hair down and get your groove on this spring.
Belk Beauty Tips– Spring 2012
Are you ready for a beauty moment? The designer runways inspired eye-catching makeup trends for the spring season, from ladylike and sophisticated touches with a 1950’s feel inspired by flawless cinematic beauties like Sophia Loren, to cool girls with a kick—as in bold new brows or metallic creases to frame the eyes—each option playing with a mix of old and new. The overall message: Pair vintage with modern to make a statement that’s all you. Here are a few of the big ideas:
Flawless skin; the perfect prominent brow- Do it like Liz—striking and feminine at the same time.
A monochromatic palette on the face- Often dewy, highlighted by a brilliant pop of color. Equally creative and wearable: Cool turq, barely-there green, orange or coral.
An array of reds from pop art to elegant- Lipstick’s most iconic color reinvented—perfect paired with a brow-shadowed eye.
Modern cat eyes-A familiar flick of liner at the corners of the eyes—often inventive, even playful.
Whitened silver metallic shadows- Spark up the eyes and brow bones.
Sporty cheeks- Recreate a careful glow. Peachy, dewy and sun splashed looking—fit and flushed.
