The New Year has always been known to spur on a resolve in people. Many resolutions involve a desire to think different, to feel different and/or to look different. Belk department stores aims to please in helping consumers reach their goals.
On January 11, 2013, Arlene Goldstein, Belk’s Vice President of Trend Merchandising and Fashion Director, took a moment with media to introduce the new trends of 2013.
Belk’s Spring 2013 Fashion Tour, labeled Pretty Woman, unveiled focus on passport, sharp & chic, lady luxe and most wanted styles.
Women’s trends include bold print dresses, silky tops, spring jacket, statement necklaces, sassy skirts (full, flounced and/or a-line), fancy pants, fashion wedge (footwear, novelty knits, something lacy and new handbags (in unexpected materials).

The men were not forgotten as Goldstein presented men’s trends of slim fit jeans, novelty short, preppy shoes, prominent patterns (from plaids and paisleys to new tropicals and scarf prints), colored bottoms, prepster ties, spring sport coats, tees, bold stripes and soft colored dress shirts.
Men’s trends afford the unleashing of the stereotypical rugged man unto with the new man will have no problem sporting bright colors and form-fitting gear, while maintaining his masculinity.
Goldstein spoke of doing away with the traditional ways of thinking related to the “seasonal color rules”, as she pointed out that whites after Labor Day are perfectly fine staple colors to build off of.

Belk is also on a mission to continue to provide the latest and greatest. Belk is currently seeking southern designers to compete in the Belk Southern Designer Competition 2013. Winning designs will be featured in Belk’s 2014 advertising campaigns and sold at Belk and Belk.com.
