The Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA) came together this week to elect new board members for its local San Pedro chapter. The Jan. 30 meeting, held at Blue Water Grill, was hosted by Herbert Haylock, BTIA National President, and Efren Perez, BTIA Executive Director.
According to Ambergris Today's Jan 31 article, newly elected board positions include:
- Chairman: Mukul Kanabar, The Phoenix
- Treasurer: Javier Williams, Victoria House
- Secretary: Enes Ramirez, Belize Diving Adventures
- Member at Large: Ovel Leonardo, Las Terrazas
- Past Chair, Julie Babcock, Caye Casa
Despite San Pedro being one of the top tourism destinations in Belize, the island is only home to just over 30 members. For 2013, the BTIA will be introducing initiatives to increase the organization's exposure, both in San Pedro and the rest of Belize. BTIA Executive Director, Efren Perez shared plans for workshops and membership campaigns to help promote membership to chapters nationwide.
The BTIA is the private sector tourism association whose objective is to advocate on behalf of its members for the benefit of the tourism industry by influencing the outcomes of public policy and resource allocation decisions by the government, specifically for tourism.
