Belding Forest: Belding Wildlife Management Area: Vernon CT

Nothing like a new year, and a snowfall to get the pulse pounding for this hike through the Belding Wildlife Management Area.

The cold air out here on the trails, makes you feel like your really lost in the great outdoors.
You may only be minutes from your home but out in the fresh snow, the cold light air freezes your lungs and makes you feel the isolation. With the cold air and noiseless forest, there is no feeling like this in the whole world.

When your out here alone, in the bitter cold all alone, the noise seems to vanish the cold seems to take over your mind and the cold can make you numb. You soon realize this is would be very hard to survive without thermal clothing. Just imagine, days before the ground was an ugly brown.  Now the snow covers everything making it fresh and new.

Scenes from the river that runs through Belding Forest can be seen in the slide show.
Belding Forest is also connected to the trail system of Valley Falls and Webster Preserve via the Belding Preserve marked as a blue trail and then a white trail through a parcel of hill land just above the fields on Bread and Milk road. It is easy to find, although the parking is tricky it does exist at one of three entrances. Use the Google map to find this place and its three or four parking areas. One is located at Reservoir Road, one is on the side of Bread and Milk Road, another is on Valley Falls Road below the Webster Preserve sign and one is at the end of Tamarac Lane in a neighborhood off Baker Road.
