Being shorthanded is no obstacle in 3-1 Bruins win over Lightning (Video)

If Thursday night's season-opening 3-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning at TD Garden is any indication, the Boston Bruins ought to play the rest of the year with only four skaters. The Bruins scored a pair of shorthanded goals in the game, one by Chris Kelly in the 1st period on a penalty shot, and the other by Patrice Bergeron, unassisted, in the 3rd period. Rounding out the scoring for Boston was an even strength goal in the second period by Milan Lucic, assisted by David Krejčí. Tampa Bay's loan goal was in the second period by Valtteri Filppula, assisted by Eric Brewer and Alex Killorn.

Particularly notable was the Bruins debut of future hall-of-famer Jarome Iginla. The 36-year-old former captain of the Calgary Flames has scored more than 500 goals and 1000 points in his career, but he's never been afraid to drop the gloves. Against Tampa Bay, Iginla squared off with defenseman Radko Gudas, who is 13 years Iginla's junior. Although the season is still young, fighting seems to be up in the NHL. According the HockeyFights.com, 19 fights have been logged in the first three days of the 2013-14 season. Iginla was judged to be the winner of his fight by more than 75% of readers at HockeyFights.com.
