'Being Human': Sam Witwer, Meaghan Rath and Anna Fricke preview season 4

"Being Human" returns to Syfy for its fourth season next week, and on Wednesday, Jan. 8, executive producer Anna Fricke and series stars Sam Witwer and Meaghan Rath spoke to reporters about what to expect this season.

Guest stars Like previous seasons, "Being Human" season 4 is going to see a few familiar faces pop up again, including Mark Pellegrino (Bishop), Kyle Schmid (Henry), and Jesse Rath (Robbie). "A lot of our guest stars this year are people that you've seen before," Rath said. "Our favorites from the last couple seasons somehow reappear this year." Both she and Witwer called it "a greatest hits" sort of season, with Witwer adding, "Weirdly enough – everyone likes to say, "Oh, anything can happen on a sci-fi show and death doesn't mean you're done" and it doesn't – but we generally didn't violate any death rules. …We didn't bring anyone magically back from the dead."

Here's some exciting news: expect more Bishop this season. "We got him as much as we could get him," Fricke shared. "The time we got him for was extremely satisfying." Witwer added, "Bishop has more to do this year than he has in previous seasons. …He'll show up briefly at first and then he shows up later and we do have the Bishop show for a second."

Watch the first three seasons Witwer used a couple of vivid descriptions to compare the fourth season to past ones as he explained, "a lot of risks were taken and the writers are going for it," such as, "If season three was an awesome drive through like beautiful Northern California redwoods. Season four is like smashing through the city wrecking the car, which is awesome" and it's "swinging for the fences…and breaking the bat and then taking the bat and stabbing the pitcher."

If you've missed any of the first three seasons, however, now might be a good time to catch up, as Rath said, "This season really feels like we’ve come full circle and there’s tons and tons of little surprises - little gems that are tucked away in some scenes this year that really resonate with everything we’ve been through in the past. …It’s really going to be interesting for the die-hard fans of the series because I know they’re going to be able to pick up on these little hidden surprises."

End of the season teases Both Witwer and Rath sang their praises for the season 4 finale, written by Fricke, and it sounds like the season will be going out with a bang – and not just with that last episode. "Leading up to the finale are some really provocative crazy things," Witwer previewed, teasing that episodes 8 and 9 "are insane" and "are going to blow minds." But it might be episode 10 that has everyone talking, as he teased, "[It] has a moment that will haunt me for the rest of my career," with Rath calling it "more visual than" Sally eating Aidan and Fricke saying "it might be one of the biggest moments of the series." So make sure you watch every episode leading up to it because you'll be a bit lost if you don't.

"Being Human" season 4 airs Mondays at 9 p.m. on Syfy.
