Beignets are fried pastries rolled in sugar. These tasty treats were introduced in Louisiana when the French colonized the area in the 18th century. Beignet offers the traditional style which are dusted with powdered sugar. They come in a triple (3), a five spot (5), or a baker's dozen (13). You also have the option to order a sweet and loaded beignet. With flavors like chocolate truffle, Bavarian cream, caramel praline cream and tiramisu just to name a few, the choice will be difficult to make. You can order them individually or mix and match a dozen.
Another sweet offering at Beignet are the crepes. You have a choice of lemon berry, nutty nana, cinnamon apple, wildberry, peanut butter & jelly, and Nutella. All sweet crepes are served with Sabayon cream which is a sweet white cream that can be served warm or cold.
If you do not have a sweet tooth, there are savory crepes on the menu too. These cornbread crepes are offered in a variety of flavors including Benjamin Buford Blue (crispy shrimp) and Daddy Duke (spicy Cajun style Andouille sausage). Or try their signature crepe, the Muffaletta (Mortadella ham, Genoa salami, mozzarella, provolone and olive salad).
Savory beignets are also available. Spicy options include the Spicy Shrimp (shrimp, roasted red peppers and Szechuan cream cheese) or the Cajun (Andouille sausage, chicken, candied jalapenos, crawfish and olive tapenade). Or you could try the Upstream (salmon lox, dill Havarti and cream cheese) or the Crusty Crab (Blue crab, hickory bacon and herbed goat cheese). All savory beignets are served with a side of chips.
You can wash all of these tasty treats down with Louisiana sweet tea or Chicory coffee. The seating area is small inside, but there are tables outside as well. Don't miss out on this taste of New Orleans. Individual items range from $3.00 to $9.00.
