Behind the scenes at Charleston Goodwill – Great Buys

Those looking to catch a good deal on clothing, furniture, household items and more should visit our local Goodwill store.  According to their web site, “Most Goodwill stores introduce more than 2,000 new items every day into their inventory mix on the sales floor. So if you don’t find what you’re looking for today, your best bet is to check back the next day”

New furniture is often assembled on-site in the workshop by workers receiving job training.  Occasionally, special selections of furniture and goods are available for purchase as well.  New mattresses are priced under $200, and men’s suits are only $9.99.

Before clothing reaches the store, each item is tagged with a special color.  Each week, the tag color changes allowing staff to easily pull the oldest items from the floor every two weeks.  Pulled clothing is then returned to the processing plant where it is baled and sold to a textile recycler.

During a private tour by the Director of Community Relations, this Examiner was allowed to visit the online Goodwill store, Shop Goodwill.  This is a special department within the walls of the facility where donated items of special value are photographed, priced, listed online and shipped after purchase.  Whether you’re looking for a radio flyer wagon, vintage tin containers, a favorite lunchbox from your childhood or a diamond ring, you should try www.ShopGoodwill.com  first.  This is a perfect way to find great deals and support our local community at the same time!
