'Behind the Cellar Door' prepares to pop more corks

According to the Amador Vintners Association, "Amador County is one of a few special wine regions in California that can boast successful wines from grape varieties originating from several countries." With their special events like the "Big Crush" and the upcoming "Behind the Cellar Door" visitors can "taste their way around the world through older, just released, and wines in the barrel" by over 35 participating Amador County wineries. This premier wine tasting event is an annual affair that draws thousands out in the first weekend of March to enjoy the fruitful labors of dedicated wine makers in the beautiful foothills.

The "Behind the Cellar Door" weekend will include cuisine pairings to accompany the selected wines being offered to participating visitors who purchase tickets. Presale tickets can be purchased through February 26, 2013 at the Amador Vintners website here for $50 or $35 Sunday only and designated driver tickets for $10 each. Please do remember to designate those drivers who will enjoy many pleasures among the vineyard ambrosia. Scenic vistas are plentiful along with Mexican fare prepared by Borjon, barbeque shrimp by Andis, three ways chili at Bray, Mediterranean delights and more as well as live music, great personalities, and informational seminars and demonstrations.

If you are in a quandary on how to surprise your special loved one for Valentine's Day, weekend tickets to be enjoyed on March 2 and 3 are an entertaining as well as delicious and potentially romantic option. The event is promoted as a "Passport to the World" due to its extensive variety of wines that speak to the wine ambiance around the globe as well as food pairings to further compliment the experience. Jeff Runquist Wines will showcase the wine of Uruguay paired with an Austurian beef stew, Amador Foothill Winery will highlight their Barbera, Sangiovese, and Aglianico accompanied by Polla alla Cacciatoria, and Nine Gables will offer Italian wedding soup, lasagne focaccia bread and biscotti alongside the pouring of three new releases.

The lists of wines that will be available for tasting is extensive with 36 possible destinations. Maps and highlighting of those that most readily peek one's interest are a good idea along with an aim to appreciate the foothills and all they have to offer. Extensive details can be downloaded at the website and can greatly serve to guide and prepare visitors prior to arriving for the weekend.
