'Behind the Candelabra' wins Golden Globe Award for Best TV Movie or Mini-Series

The HBO movie 'Behind the Candelabra' has won a Golden Globe Award for Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television on Jan. 12, 2014, at the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills, Calif. The Golden Globe Awards are presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and honors the best in television and film. Tonight’s show was hosted by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey live on NBC.

Accepting the Golden Globe Award was producer Jerry Weintraub. "We got a lot of craft awards this year, which I am really happy for. They do all the work and I get all the credit...thank you very much!

"Behind the Candelabra" is a biopic of piano maestro Liberace. Taking on the lead role of Liberace is Michael Douglas and playing his young lover is Matt Damon. The film, directed by Steve Soderbergh, explores the relationship of the two men and brings a whole new side of Liberace to life.

Also nominated for Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television were:

  • "Dancing on the Edge"
  • "The White Queen"
  • "Top of the Lake"
  • "American Horror Story: Coven"

"Behind the Candelabra" was nominated for four Golden Globe Awards tonight. The other nominations were for:

  • Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for Michael Douglas
  • Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for Matt Damon
  • Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for Rob Lowe
