Well, the kids are back in school and mass confusion has taken over. Homework assignments, projects, due dates, appointments, practices, etc.—all have their place in the lives of our children. So, what can we do as parents to keep our kids happy, healthy, and as stress free as possible? We need to teach them organizational skills and systems to keep them on track. Here are a few tips to streamline their many activities and responsibilities:
1. Put all appointments and practices with times and locations on a central calendar. You may even color code them to make them more conspicuous (such as writing all the doctors appointments in red)
2. Purchase a planner for your child to write their homework assignments and projects in. Check the planner weekly for consistency. This will not only help your child be more organized but also accountable for their assignments.
3. If your child has a cell phone, program appointments into the phone and place a notification alert with it so as to remind them of the event.
4. Lastly, communicate with your child regularly. If their schedule is a burden, some activities may need to be stopped if they are stressed.
We were given the privilege to raise children and we should take ownership of that privilege. With that being said, there is more to parenting than buying gifts and cooking meals . We should be teaching our children lifeskills to navigate through this crazy thing called life.
Peace and Blessings,
