Do you need to cultivate your employment seeking skills? Are you lacking adequate clothing for that job interview? Do you suffer from low self esteem? Could you benefit from lessons in GED preparation, money management, conflict resolution, basic computer literacy, and/or English as a second language? If so, Beginning Bridge Community Development Corporation may be a local resource for you or someone you know.
The nonprofit organization was established by Vanessa Hunter-Beavers in 2004. Her employment background includes business consultation and human resource management. The rationale for the organization stemmed from her desire to provide these free services:
♦ job readiness training that includes resume, interview, and on-line application instruction;
♦ a peer family support group that fosters a positive self worth, Bible based conflict resolution, and healthy communication among couples, families, and co-workers;
♦ GED preparation,
♦ money management,
♦ basic computer literacy,
♦ English as second language,
♦ and a source of fulfilling community service hours mandated by the court or other agencies.
Until recently, the organization was in desperate need of transportation. In May 2009, Children's Hospital donated a van to the organization upon the recommendation of United Way. You might not need to avail yourself of any of the services mentioned above, but you - like Children's Hospital - would like to lend a helping hand by volunteering, offering financial support, or donating much needed items. Please view the organization's web-page for volunteer and contact info, site locations, a calendar of events, a donation wish list, and more.
