Beginning 2014 in Crime

2013 brought us crimes, both on a local and national level, that both disgusted us and captivated our attention.

For example, 2013 saw the name Jodi Arias brought to national prominence. As we may recall, she is the Arizona woman that was accused (and later, convicted) of murdering her boyfriend. The crime was covered by national cable and network news channels. The national also experienced shock and terror at the bombing at the Boston Marathon.

Sadly, gun violence and school shootings also continued to make national news throughout last year.

Now, in 2014, we will likely to be introduced to a whole new wave of crime, and names which will eventually live on later in infamy.

Yesterday, a high-profile American defendant, known as "Jihad Jane" was sentenced to 10 years in prison, for her involvement in terrorist activities and the failed murder plot of an artist living overseas. Her case had been going on since 2009, when she was first indicted.

While certainly not the only high-profile defendant to see the inside of a courtroom in 2014, this woman was among the first to make news in 2014. There are far more high-profile trials to make place throughout this year, so it remains to be seen what will be the biggest national crime story this year.

What do you think was the biggest crime story of this year?
