Beginner Scrapbooking: Photo Organization

As someone who scrapbooks your most important tool is your pictures. Before you even start to put your pictures into layouts you need to organize them. Organizing your pictures can be one of the most daunting and overwhelming tasks a scrapbooker encounters. It can be very difficult knowing where to start sorting whether you have printed pictured or digital. Organizing pictures is not generally a task that is performed overnight but rather over a period of time. Taking your time to complete this essential task helps you to stay focused and not get overwhelmed. Here are some tips to help you get started.

1. Organize your pictures into years. Purchase some photo organization tools such as photo boxes to put your photos into. If you are organizing your photos on your computer create a folder for each year. As you sort through your pictures place each one in the appropriate year.

2. Organize your year folders into categories. With each year folder or photo box sort all the pictures into categories such as: Christmas 2009, Jill and Dean's wedding Aug 2009, or Joey's soccer games summer 2009. When labelling each category add the date to the label. Doing this you will save yourself a lot of time with the next step.

3. Organize each of the category folders in the year boxes into chronological order.

By following these 3 easy steps you will be well on your way creating beautiful layouts that will be enjoyed for generations to come.
