Bree Fowler of the Associated Press reports that one man was made to feel terrible for constantly scolding his cat for urinating on the new computer. The elderly male cat was suspected of repeatedly spraying the man’s Dell Latitude 6430u laptop due to the strong smell of cat urine emanating from the device. The cat was wisely taken to the vet to check for a health problem but was given a clean bill of health. The truth came to light when the gentleman read other Latitude 6430u owners’ posts on Dell’s online customer forum. They said their laptops gave off a strong smell akin to cat urine too. Some narrowed the point of origin to the keyboard or palm rest.
Texas based Dell initially suggested cleaning the effected keyboards with a soft cloth or compressed air. This proved to be ineffectual and the stench persisted. Dell ascertained last Thursday the aroma was connected to part of the manufacturing process. The problem has allegedly been fixed.
Company spokesman David Frink said the odor isn't related to a "biological contamination" and doesn't present a health hazard. He added that newly assembled laptops that are currently in stores are unaffected.
Dell has offered to replace any remaining tom cat scented Latitude 6430u palm rest assemblies. It has not been made known if Dell will be reimbursing the gentleman’s veterinarian bill incurred due to their pungent laptop.
