After seemingly sitting on the shelf for years, it appears that "Beetlejuice 2" might actually be a reality. A new report surfaced earlier today claiming that Tim Burton is set to direct the sequel to the 1988 hit film.
The Wrap reported Monday afternoon that the news is actually better than just Tim Burton returning to the fold. According to that publication, Michael Keaton is also in talks to return as the titular character.
It seems unlikely that some of the other starring actors in the original would return for the sequel, but its possible that the duo of Burton and Keaton could lure someone back.
As far as who is actually attached to the project at this point, Seth Grahame-Smith has reportedly already written the script for the film. The studio has said that it has great confidence in Grahame-Smith's "Beetlejuice 2" script.
Keaton's character has remained popular, long after the original movie wrapped. That movie also helped launch the careers of actors like Geena Davis and Winona Ryder while cementing the careers of character actors like Catherine O'Hara and Jeffrey Jones.
There is no word on what the plot would be for a second film, though there have long been rumors that the sequel would delve more deeply into what made Beetlejuice the ghost that he is.
